CAN Europe Statement: Governments Must Ensure Clear Commitments and Accountability Ahead of Western Balkans Green Agenda Ministerial

Europe in transition

Brussels, 7 October 2024 – Ahead of tomorrow’s Ministerial Meeting on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans within the Berlin Process, it is important to remind governments of the need for clear communication on implementation progress, along with a precise commitment on a transparent timeline and well defined responsibilities across all aspects of governance.

Three years after the Action Plan’s adoption, there is still a lack of clarity on what it brings on a national level and how commitments are being institutionalised. The development and implementation of national action plans and strategies have been slow. The upcoming Action Plan revision must deliver the Green Agenda’s transformative potential, improve its preparation and adoption process by timely involving the authorities and the civil society actors, as well as providing adequate monitoring tools that would expedite action.
