NGOs urge Commissioner Jørgensen to reject potential EU investments in foreign gas export infrastructures

Brussels, 21 February, 2025 – Over 50 Civil Society Organizations Raise Concerns Over EU’s Potential Investment in Foreign LNG and Fossil Gas Export Infrastructure.

Today, over 50 civil society organisations sent an urgent letter to Commissioner Jørgensen, raising deep concerns about the EU’s potential commitment to invest in foreign LNG and fossil gas export infrastructure, in exchange for long-term contracts and lower gas prices, as revealed by the first draft of the Affordable Energy Action Plan.

The letter highlights how such a move would be risky from both a geopolitical and economic point of view, running counter to the EU’s strategic interests on energy security and its climate commitments.
