Listen: Decoding the EU’s COP29 Negotiating Position

COPs| Climate action| Global transition

On 30 October 2024 CAN Europe hosted a live broadcast where a panel of experts reflected on the EU’s negotiating position ahead of COP29 in Azerbaijan.

During the discussion, the speakers explored the key gaps that remain in clearly defining the EU’s path to net-zero emissions by 2040 at the latest, and the global phase-out of fossil fuels and the EU’s role in ensuring an equitable transition that offers hope to people and nature worldwide. The experts also delved into where the EU’s ambition to scaling up financial support for developing countries is lacking – but also how the EU, previously seen as a bridge builder in the UNFCCC, is also expected to show increased leadership in these discussions.

Chiara Martinelli, Director, CAN Europe
Lorelei Limousin, Senior Energy & Climate Campaigner, Greenpeace European Unit (Unable to speak due to technical difficulties)
