In response to the public consultation on the European Affordable Housing Plan (EAHP), CAN Europe presents the people’s vision for decent, sustainable and affordable housing for all.
Higher rents and mortgage payments, compounded by rising energy costs, are putting enormous financial strain on households. These higher costs make it difficult for households to set money aside to afford decent, fossil fuels free and energy efficient housing. Rather households may only be able to afford to live in inadequate and energy inefficient housing, which in turn, require more energy to heat and as a result, higher energy bills.
This briefing provides recommendations for a EU housing plan that can address the intersecting crises of housing affordability, energy poverty and climate change.
