Brussels, May 28 – Together with other organizations, we sent a letter to Commissioner Dan Jørgensen. We welcome the European Commission’s continued commitment to science- and evidence-based policymaking, as reiterated in recent statements by President von der Leyen and Commissioner Hoekstra and which we see as a cornerstone of credible and effective policy frameworks.
In this context, we wrote to express our concerns about several technical provisions in the latest draft of the Low-Carbon Hydrogen Delegated Act, particularly those relating to methane emissions accounting. We are deeply concerned that this pathway risks undermining the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate targets. Instead of accelerating the energy transition, it could lock Europe into continued fossil fuel dependence.
We respectfully call on the Commission to consider the following revisions:
- Revise the proposed methane default value
- Update the GWP (Global-Warming Potential) factor for methane
- Use the best-available independent methane emissions data
