Submission to public consultation on the EU implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the area of access to justice in environmental matters

On 20 December 2018, the European Commission has launched a public consultation, as a part of its study on the EU’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention in the area of access to justice in environmental matters.

The study is initiated as a follow-up of the findings of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee who states that the EU is not allowing members of the public to have access to the EU Courts which violates the Aarhus Convention.

CAN Europe has provided input to this consultation to present the experience of its members and the plaintiffs of the People’s Climate Case on the issues related to access to justice in environmental matters.
