The Paris Agreement Compatible (PAC) scenario sets out our vision for a speedy energy transition

”Europe’s energy landscape can become fully renewable and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030 with proven technologies and available solutions, as a truly Paris Agreement compatible civil-society-led energy scenario shows.“ Energy Scenarios Policy Coordinator, Jörg Mühlenhoff.

Published in June together with the European Environmental Bureau, the Paris Agreement Compatible (PAC) scenario is the first civil society-led energy scenario for net-zero emissions by 2040.  PAC is the result of one and a half years of grassroots scenario building with 150 CAN Europe members and climate experts. The scientifically-backed pathways for industry, buildings and transport illustrate that a 100% renewable energy supply is achievable with available technologies while respecting our strict sustainability criteria.

The PAC scenario serves our Network as a benchmark to monitor the ambition of EU policies. In 2020, CAN Europe presented the PAC scenario at more than 60 events to around 1,800 participants. We are currently exploring the possibility of working on national PAC scenarios.
