With a new “remote prosumers” a new wave of household use of solar electricity has come to Lithuania. The aim to increase local generation from renewable sources and continue to encourage residents and businesses to become prosumers. The first 1 MW remote solar farm has been opened in 2020 to generate electricity for almost 300 households. The state has already invested almost EUR 42 million in the development of prosumers: from 2019 to date, approximately EUR 36 million was provided in support to residents who installed solar power plants themselves. Another EUR 164.5 million in EU funds are planned to be invested in expanding the number of prosumers in the country by 2027.
