Greenpeace, Bulgaria

Greenpeace Bulgaria launched a new solar laboratory in the oldest professional highschool in Pernik. It is open for practical exercises for all students who study thermal engineering. Pernik is one of the centers of the coal industry in Bulgaria. For many years the city has been mining coal for the needs of the whole country. Nowadays, however, coal has fading functions and open-pit mines regularly pollute the air, streets and homes. In the new solar laboratory students use three different technologies to convert sunlight into heat. This could be the future of local district heating.
