CAN Europe welcomes the consultation on the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF).
We recognise the value of targeted state aid to speed up the necessary industrial transformation—especially investments in grids, renewable deployment, RES-based electrification and energy efficiency.
However, the patchy state aid framework needs a major upgrade in the medium term to serve a more coherent EU industrial policy. On the current CISAF guidelines under consultation, we raise a few concerns—most notably, the unacceptable risk of locking in fossil fuels for over a decade.
