Media briefing: CAN Europe at London Climate Action Week

Press Releases

Brussels, 17 June 2026, CAN Europe will be in London for London Climate Action Week,  an emerging and important climate discussion space, to discuss with policymakers, civil society, business, academia and media on what credible climate leadership now requires: delivery.

Climate credibility now depends on delivery

With London Climate Action Week taking place directly after the Bonn climate talks and ahead of COP31, CAN Europe will use the week to underline that climate credibility now depends on delivery: shifting finance, policy and infrastructure away from fossil fuel dependence and towards a fair, funded and actionable transition.

CAN Europe will be highlighting the following priorities:

  • Fossil fuel dependence is a risk: to the climate, energy security and affordability.
  • How to make the transition away from fossil fuels fair and fast: Advancing electrification will be critical, but must be based on renewable energies and not deepen dependence on fossil fuels.
  • European nations have great leverage and responsibility: through public finance institutions, development banks, diplomacy and domestic energy choices.
  • Public finance should enable the clean-energy transition: not prolong fossil lock-in, while also supporting climate action needs in the Global South based on international legal obligations.

“Coming directly after negotiations in Bonn, London Climate Action Week is an important space to continue shaping practical policy ideas needed for delivery. European nations, including the UK, must use their leverage to move away from fossil fuel dependence and towards renewable energy, resilience and a just transition. Public money should support renewable electrification and vulnerable countries, not new fossil lock-in.”

Chiara Martinelli, Director, CAN Europe
